Nursing Student Scholarship Policy

  Purpose: In light of the projected shortage of nurses, it is the purpose of this policy to
  encourage and support nursing students in the greater Kansas City area through the funding
  of nursing student scholarships.

  Eligibility: Individuals must be enrolled in the nursing program at Avila University, Kansas City,
  Research College of Nursing/Rockhurst University Nursing Program, or William Jewell 
  College.

  Application Requirements:

  Please provide the following documentation:
   1. Completed Nursing Student Scholarship Application form.

   2. Essay:  Describe how you will incorporate the mission of the College or University that you
       are attending into your role as a nursing student and explain how your leadership
       experience and/or community activities will have an influence on your as a professional
      nurse. Scholarship selection is based primarily on the essay component of the application.
      Your essay should not exceed one typed page.  

  3. Letter of recommendation from faculty member.

  4.  Copy of official transcrip with current GPA.

 Scholarship Program Informaiton and Requirements:

  1.  Scholarship program is funded by The Research Foundation. Scholarships range
        from $1,000 to $2,500.

  2.  Must have miminum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to apply.

  3.  Completed applications must be received by March 1. Only current sophomore and junior
       nursing students are eligible to apply.  Notification of awards will be made by June 1 and
       funds will be distributed to the college or university by August 1 for the fall term.

  4.  Renewal is possible the next year for those who reapply and meet the scholarship
       program criteria.

  The Research Foundation, formerly the fund raising entity for Research Medical Center, 
  became a separate non-profit organization following the sale of Health Midwest/Research
  Medical Center to HCA, a for-profit company on April 1, 2003.  The Foundation exists for
  the continued benefit of the communtiy and its improved health status.
